UCLA Ob/Gyn Affiliate: The Burke Health Center

What is the Burke Health Center?The Burke Health Center, located at 2509 Pico Blvd in Santa Monica, is one of three clinical sites of the Venice Family Clinic. The Venice Family Clinic is a private, nonprofit agency whose mission is "to provide comprehensive primary health care that is affordable, accessible and compassionate for people with no other access to care".

History:
In 1995, during an economic crisis in Los Angeles County, the VFC formed a partnership with the LA County Dept of Health and took over 2 public health clinics, one being the Burke Health Center, and the other the Venice Health Center located on Venice Blvd. The UCLA Dept of Ob/Gyn then came on as a partner to provide residents and attendings for three clinics each week.

Who do we see? Being a free clinic, we see only low income, and largely uninsured patients. To qualify, patients must be under 200% of poverty ($36,000/yr for a family of four); they must live within a geographical area bounded by Malibu, LAX and La Cienaga Blvd on the east. The clinic sees over 17,000 patients a year in over 83,000 visits. 15% are homeless, 60% are women, 82% are minority group members, and 86% have no health insurance.

Services We Provide: Primary care, women´s health care including cancer screening, family planning and prenatal services as well as colposcopy, specialty care provided by volunteer providers at the clinic and in their offices, medications, diagnostic services, and social work services.

Hours of the BHC: The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5:00 pm. Ob/Gyn clinic is held from 1:00pm-5:00pm Monday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon.

Directions to the Clinic: Head south on the 405 Fwy, go west on the Santa Monica (10) Fwy west. Exit at Centinela Ave, turning right at the light. At Pico, turn right (west). The Clinic is on the north side of Pico, between 25th and 26th Street. There is a large parking lot surrounding the clinic. The clinic is on the second floor.
