We provide first and second trimester pregnancy terminations utilizing various methods; a fertility control consultation is included with each encounter. Our physicians will help you determine the appropriate method:
-
Non-surgical terminations using a combination of medications are offered
to appropriate patients up to 63 days gestation. This procedure uses two medicines to end a pregnancy. The first pill, mifepristone, is taken in the office with the physician. The second medication, misoprostol, is inserted vaginally at home. These two medications work together to end the pregnancy and empty the uterus. You will experience cramping and bleeding similar to a heavy period. Spotting and bleeding usually lasts for two weeks. A return visit is needed to ensure the termination is complete.
-
This procedure is performed in the clinic and takes 5-10 minutes.
A combination of agents is used to gently prepare the cervix and empty the uterus; ultrasound is used to ensure the procedure is successful. Pregnancy terminations after 17 weeks and medically complex cases are performed in the UCLA Medical Center operating room. Genetic testing of pregnancy tissue is performed in cases of abnormal pregnancy.
The Center provides timely treatment in a private and specialized outpatient environment. Women undergoing pregnancy termination are offered several anesthetic options:
